To wit: Mac users (on average) are better educated, have more disposable income and show much stronger brand loyalty than their PC-using brethren. Combine that with the popularity of the Apple brand in key age groups and you get a demographic that leaves the average marketing department in need of a towel and a change of pants.”

Photo

Went to Big O Tires to get a flat fixed this morning. I waited until now to break it out because I though that if they announced something earth-shattering at MacWorld I might be replacing my iMac, but that didn’t happen.

Anyway, I opened the keyboard this afternoon and have been using it for several hours, and absolutely love it. The feel is perfect, and the shortcut keys for iTunes are really handy. Most of all, it’s just so awesomely thin; it feels like the keys are embedded in the desk itself.

Now I just wonder what I’ll do about my laptop, since its shortcut keys don’t match…

The Adventures of Dr. McNinja

The Adventures of Dr. McNinja: This has quite possibly the best combination of title and image of any Wikipedia article out there.

Currently reading: The World Without Us by Alan Weisman

Currently reading: The World Without Us by Alan Weisman

"Is it a civil rights milestone to have a retarded president?"

“Is it a civil rights milestone to have a retarded president?”

At long last, I finally found good Tex-Mex in LA!

Cohen refers to a One Percent Rule that guided the writing on Futurama. When they were scripting the episode “Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch,” a character claims that he painstakingly programmed a holographic simulation using “4 million lines of BASIC.” One writer pointed out that 99 percent of the audience wouldn’t get the reference to an old programming language. Producer-writer Eric Kaplan responded, “Fuck them!”

As long as it doesn’t derail the enjoyment of the 99 percent, Futurama will make a joke tailored to the nerdiest 1 percent of its audience. “That 1 percent becomes a fan for life,” says Cohen.

And thus we learn fascinating things. Did you know, for example, that Adam is responsible not only for the fall of man, but also for the creation of venom? It didn’t exist in the Garden of Eden, because, well. Why would it? Weeds? Adam’s fault. Carnivorous animals (and, one assumes, the occasional carnivorous plant)? Adam again. Entropy? You guessed it: Adam. Think about that, won’t you; eat one piece of fruit and suddenly you’re responsible for the inevitable heat death of the universe. God’s kind of mean.
